Optimize Heart Health: Not all Omega-3s are the same.

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to human and heart health and are thought to provide a wide range of benefits.  They act as a natural anti-inflammatory and mild blood thinner.  They serve to counterbalance the excess of Omega-6 fatty acids typically found in the American diet, and shift the balance of a superclass of hormones called “eicosanoids” towards a healthier mix.  Omega-3 fatty acids have shown promising results in regard to cancer, depression, and cognition. Medical studies have shown Omega-3 Fish Oil helps people with their weight loss plan, which includes reducing hunger and appetite. Other studies have shown Omega-3 Fish Oil increases metabolism when used in association with a weight loss plan. Optimizing heart health may include a lower risk for coronary heart disease and improvement in the cholesterol profile by lowering triglycerides (TG) and increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL), “good” cholesterol. Omega-3 fish oil preparations are varied and can have dramatically different effects on our body and heart health. Some Omega-3 preparations may actually increase bad cholesterol (LDL).  CardioMender, MD offers three different Omega-3 products, all of which are derived from high-quality, deep-sea fish oils and are ultra-purified to ensure safety and optimal heart health:

  1. Ultra-Pure/High Potency Omega-3:  The major omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil are docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).  Our Ultra-Pure/High Potency Omega-3 product contains a high-dose natural mixture of EPA and DHA, plus a small amount of other omega-3 fatty acids.  This formulation is an appropriate choice for persons with a normal or low LDL or (bad” cholesterol) level. It can help lower TGs as well.
  1. High EPA Omega-3:  While both EPA and DHA have distinct health benefits, they have differential effects on LDL.  Omega-3 fatty acid supplements with a higher DHA than EPA component may adversely increase LDL levels.  Our High EPA Omega-3 is produced through a unique process that yields an extremely pure, more bioavailable mixture with a higher EPA to DHA ratio.  This formulation is appropriate for persons with a mild to moderate increase in LDL and in those people with high TGs.
  1. Total EPA Omega-3:  This product contains primarily EPA alone. Our Total EPA Omega-3 is produced through a unique process that yields an extremely pure, more bioavailable EPA. This formulation is appropriate for persons with a very high baseline LDL or an LDL over 99 after an initial trial of our High EPA Omega-3, and in those people with high TGs.

Optimize Heart Health and Cholesterol: CardioMender’s Edge

CardioMender’s Edge: This product is a plant-derived product, which can help maintain optimal LDL, TG levels and heart health.  CardioMender’s Edge contains a blend of polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs) which decrease production of LDL and TG in the liver.  It also contains plant sterols, or phytosterols (not to be confused with steroids), which are naturally occurring plant molecules that are similar to cholesterol.  Plant sterols interfere with cholesterol absorption in the intestines, thereby lowering cholesterol levels in the blood.  CardioMender’s Edge also contains pomegranate extract, a good source of polyphenols, which are antioxidants.  Antioxidants help protect cells from damage, lower inflammation, combat aging processes, and maintain optimal heart health. CardioMender’s Edge is a good option for persons who have a high LDL and/or TG level,  who prefer a natural alternative to statin drugs (e.g. atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, pravastatin), those that have had intolerable side effects from multiple statins or people who do not medically qualify for a statin.
