D. Allen Young, MD, FACP
Board Certified in both
Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine
Weight Loss Specialist
Dr. D. Allen Young is very passionate about helping his patients to fully understand their medical conditions and the potential complications that being overweight can create. He wants to help his patients succeed with their program to improve the quality and quantity of their lives.
Dr. Young joined CardioMender, MD Weight Loss Specialists on June 1, 2015. Prior to joining our team he had developed a strong interest in obesity medicine while working as a hospitalist for two years in New Hampshire. During that time he observed that many, if not most, admissions to the hospital were related to complications of obesity and could potentially have been avoided with the right preventive care beforehand. While admitting patients for common scenarios such as chest pain, uncontrolled diabetes, blood clots, or leg infections, he often found himself thinking, “What a shame, now this patient has to spend time in the hospital with the risk of additional complications, and no one is addressing the real underlying problem, his/her weight.”
Dr. Young recently became certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), which signifies excellence in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes him as having achieved a high level of competency and understanding in obesity care.
Born and raised in Kansas, Dr. Young has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Kansas. He spent one year abroad in France studying French and Mathematics and developed a deep appreciation for French cuisine and its wholesomeness during that period. Upon returning to the US he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Michigan. He subsequently obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas in Kansas City, KS and completed residency training in Internal Medicine there. In 2008 he was named a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), which signifies excellence in the practice of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Young spent nine years at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach where he was Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency program and Vice Chairman of Academic Affairs for the Department of Medicine. He served as Chairman of the Bioethics Committee and the Academic Affairs Committee and was an Affiliated Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center.
